How to Buy Sei (SEI): Step-by-Step Guide and Network Risks

Sei is a layer-1 blockchain built for fast trading apps. We explain how it works, what makes SEI risky and how to buy it without picking the wrong network when you withdraw.

What Is Sei

Sei is a standalone blockchain originally built for exchange and trading apps, with its main focus on fast transaction confirmation. The network grew out of Cosmos technology and later added EVM compatibility, which means smart contracts written for Ethereum can run on it.

The SEI token is used for paying fees, staking and voting. The network runs on proof of stake: holders delegate their coins to validators.

How to Buy Sei (SEI) Step by Step

Step 1. Choose a major exchange that lists the SEI/USDT pair, and sign up. The whole process is covered in how to open a crypto exchange account.

Step 2. Complete KYC verification, then turn on 2FA and an anti-phishing code. Details: how to secure your exchange account.

Step 3. Get USDT into your account. The easiest way is to buy it from another person, as explained in how to fund your account via P2P. Why you need this stablecoin in the first place: what is USDT.

Step 4. Open the spot market, find SEI/USDT and place a limit order at your price. How it differs from a market order: limit vs. market orders.

Step 5. If this is a trade rather than a buy-and-hold for years, set a stop-loss right away. If you'd rather not look for the levels yourself, check out Aspiro Trade: it has signals on 45 assets, each with an entry point, take-profit and stop-loss. You can see exactly which assets are on the list in the app.

Step 6. When withdrawing SEI, choose the network and address format carefully: it must match what your wallet shows. Send a small test amount first.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does Sei have two types of addresses?

The network supports both a Cosmos environment and the EVM. So wallets may show your address in either of two formats; check which one you need when withdrawing.

Can I stake SEI?

Yes, by delegating to validators. The income isn't fixed, and unstaking takes time.

How is Sei similar to Sui and Aptos?

All three focus on high speed. But they are built differently, and each has its own app ecosystem.
